Thanksgiving Legend - Five Kernels

The Legend of the Five Kernels

The first winter the Pilgrims spent in their new home was very cold. Food was in short supply. Some days they had only enough food for each new person to have five kernels of corn for the day. Finally spring came. They planted food and it grew. All the Pilgrims did not die. From then on, when a time of Thanksgiving came around, the Pilgrims put five kernels of corn on each plate to remind themselves of their blessings. Let us also remember:

The first kernel reminds us of the autumn beauty around us.

The second kernel reminds us of our love for each other.

The third kernel reminds us of God's love and care for us.

The fourth kernel reminds us of our friends, especially our Native American brothers.

The fifth kernel reminds us that we are a free people.

We are thankful, for we have been blessed.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Twilight ~ The Soap

Ok, I admit. Yes, I am a sucker for the Twilight books! I don't get to read much these days, but finished the entire series during the 2 weeks in September we were left without electricity (yes, airconditioning and internet too!) after Hurricane Gustave. And yes, the average age of its fan base, is feasibly old enough to be a daughter of mine.

I don't know what it is. Perhaps the wanting of something you can't have... The refreshing sense of morals shown by the characters... The risks you take for love... I don't know, but I really enjoyed them and would hope one day she might write something from adult perspective, or finish the other book she put on hold after the draft made its way over the internet. I am anxiously awaiting a night with my other mom girlfriends to sneek off and finally see the movie

In the meantime, We have soap!

~*~ Twilight ~*~ Twilight is a smooth sweet, mysterious yet earthy, sensual intoxicating blend. It is a natural essential oil blend of Orange, Eucalyptus, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang. Together, said to be centering, uplifting, and . Ylang Ylang possesses a sweet, intensely floral, jasmine-like aroma. It is said to often be used as an anti-depressant as well as a spiritual balancer. Ylang ylang has a reputation for acting as an aphrodisiac. Patchouli possesses a warm, mellow, earthy scent that was especially popular in the 1960s. It is an said to be an effective stress reliever. Sweet Orange is thoguht to be uplifting, and eucalyptus stimulating. This blend was inspired by mysterious green forest of Forks and the tantelizing scent of those surrounding it.

The Power of Laughter

Researchers tell us an average four year old laughs up to 500 times a day. Grown ups laugh about 15. One of the easiest, most convenient and effective techniques to achieve emotional wellness is to laugh. When we laugh we:
* Reduce feelings of depression
* Lower our blood pressure
* Promote relaxation
* Reduce stress
* Increase the oxygen level in our blood, giving us more energy
* Increase the endorphin activity in our body resulting in a sense of well-being
* Fight boredom
* Increase our enjoyment of life

During this Holiday week, remember to hug someone special, give thanks and laugh a little more.

The Power of a Simple Bath

"Healing begins with an aromatic bath and daily massage." - Hippocrates
How often do you treat yourself to a nice bath? Powerful and restorative, water is essential for every living being. Water sustains life, providing protection and comfort. From the sound of running water to the weightless support a soothing bath eases the stress of the outside world and helps restore the harmony in your body. For centuries, hydrotherapy has been considered an important treatment for a wide range of ailments. Aromatic baths releases powerful scented oils through steam that can give relief from pain, sinus and skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema; they can also treat emotional imbalances, headache, fluid retention, stress, insomnia, muscle aches and circulatory problems.
Create your own private bath. It doesn't have to be fancy, just a retreate of quiet space. Use the power of the bath and create a space of solitude and complete relaxation. In the wonderful world of a comforting bath we can free the mind while we immerse the body in a haven of healing.

Farmer's Market with The Watermelon Tree

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of sharing my booth at the market with Tara of The Watermelon Tree along with her sweet MIL Melinda! Tara is a fellow member of the Louisiana Artisans Team of Etsy. She bunked up with us for some face-to-face sales, and a taste of the local market. She is so nice and we had a great time, although a little cold! As it warmed customers began surveying the lot for great local produce for Thanksgiving week, and of course, fabulous handmade items like painted gourds, and no doubt jewelry and soap! ;-) Tara's Snowmen and Christmas Tree earrings were beautiful, especially glittering off of the mid morning sun, and sold like hot cakes. I was fortunate (or smart enough) to grab the last one! Pictured are a few of her beauties I was able to bring home. Thanks Tara! Also a big thank you to Tara and Melinda for the help the provided me as well!

Bell's Palsy Update

Halleleuh! At one month to the date I can report my Bell's Palsey is nearly undetectible! I can say I feel perhaps a lag in my right eye when it blinks, perhaps not quite as many wrinkles on that side when I smile, and my ear ever so slightly sensitive. Even my children are telling me how happy they are that Mommy's smile is all better.

I never would have dreamed the dramatic change in the past 10 days. At first it was very painful, like someone punched me really hard, with a really big fist. Lots of twitching and then the dramatic increase in function came along. I have to say rest (thanks to my husband) played a major role, along with the high dose prednisone (even though it was awful!), high dose vitamin B & D (I was deficient in both), evening primrose, green tea, flax seed oil, and super B complex. I also ate to feed my injury, as I was told after my previous surgeries. I had lots of green, and lots of protein (eggs, cheese, yogurt, chicken, beans).

We are all astonished be the speed of my recovery and oh so very thankful!

Scary at Halloween. I was actually smiling here, or trying very hard to anyway! Cover the right side of my face and you can see it.

What I have learned... If you see someone, even just a distant aquaintance, who has an obvious disfigurement, new or old, or has something obviously distressing going on... smile. Offer a hand. Acknowledge it. A smile does wonders for the healing. Please, don't stare. Ask questions. A hug is the best gift you can give someone and it doesn't require any akward words.
